Prof. Mirena Slavova, Dr. Habil.

Mirena SlavovaMirena Slavova has a Master’s degree (1981) and a PhD degree in Classics (1988), and a PhD in Philology (2004) with a thesis paper on “Phonetics of Greek Inscriptions from Bulgaria”. She is a Professor of Classical Languages (Ancient Greek) with a habilitation thesis “<I> Digraphs in the Thracian Language” (2007) and Chair of the Department of Classics (since 2005); fellow of the Onassis Foundation in Athens (2002) and the Mellon Fellowship Programme of the American Research Institute in Istanbul (2006). Key research interests focus on Ancient Greek linguistics (phonetics, morphology, lexicology), linguistic stages and historical development, onomastics, the language of Ancient Greek inscriptions, the linguistic situation and the culture of the Balkans in ancient times. Teaching experience includes Ancient Greek phonetics and morphology, Ancient Greek language and authors (drama and fiction), Ancient Greek for beginners. For a detailed CV in Bulgarian, click here.
